What is the basic function of catabolic operons like the lac operon?

What is the primary function of catabolic operons, such as the lac operon? a. To seek an alternative energy source when glucose is absent or present in insufficient amounts. b. To identify an alternative source of carbon when glucose is lacking or not present in adequate quantities. c. To find an alternative source of carbon regardless of the glucose concentration.

I don't believe it is C, because the lac operon is only switched on when there no glucose available, or it is only in trace amounts. This answer is suggesting the lac operon could be switched on at any time, which is not correct. I'm tossing up between A and B, but I believe B is more specific, because lactose is a source of carbon, acting as an energy source. I would go B.

Liberated hydroxyl group at the carbonyl group with acetal formation in the first half and carbon, reacts with the hydroxyl groups of the two compounds and other compounds (-COC-) from each other when connecting with ethereal water connection. This compound is given to glycosides name. If this event is going on between the two is called a sugar molecule of glucose or glucose disaccharide occurring compounds. If one is trisaccharides obtained if these events happening between the three sugar shall be in the same way. This event (n) if in one sugar molecule polysaccharides (starch, cellulose and glycogen) occurs. For example:Glucose + fructose> sucrose (cane or beet sugar), glucose + galactose> n of milk sugar glucose> starch, cellulose, etc.

The correct answer to this question is tofind an alternative energy source when glucose is absent or not present in sufficientamounts. Lac operon helps in the breaking down of lactose to be converted asfood source and also in the breaking down of molecules in releasing energy.
