What kind of spider is furry black and has a small orange spot on there back, in colorado?

I have seen two of these spiders, and I'm curious about their identity. They appear to be either dark brown or black and have a fuzzy texture. The entire body is that color, except for a small orange spot on their back. Their legs are not long, and the spiders are about the size of a nickel, including the legs. I have a 2-year-old and small dogs, so I would like to know if I should be concerned about their presence. Thank you!

That’s a very good description of one of the larger jumping spiders, most likely one of the Phidippus. Blocky head segment, teardrop-shaped abdomen, 2 big eyes in front, watches you when you’re near it, seems to have ‘personality’. If so, it’s harmless to you, your kids and your pets. Most spiders will bite if desperate, but most spider bites are much less annoying than a wasp sting. The dogs probably won’t mess with it, unless they play with it or eat it. I’d say the risk is all on the spider’s side.

Seems like a Phidippus johnsoni. This spider only bites when threatened. But just leave them alone.Don’t worry, they are not poisonous. This spider only bites when threatened. The bite results in swelling and pain at the bite site, lasting for several days. (oh and, good description!)

Probably a red-backed jumping spider, Phidippus johnsoni. They are harmless if left alone, although their bite is like a pin-prick and it may be followed by itching.
