Why can’t I connect to http://192.168.0.277?

I have a Netgear wireless access point, and I want to activate its security settings. After conducting some research, I learned that to access the settings, I need to enter the IP address of the access point. However, every time I enter the address listed on the bottom of the unit, I receive a "this page cannot be displayed" error. I also have a BigPond broadband account, and my IP address is 10.0.0.xxx, which may be relevant. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

192.168.0.277 is not a valid IP address.

255 is the highest value any octet can contain. Your router’s address is likely 192.168.0.1

EDIT: Are you trying to connect via wireless? Netgear normally requires administration through an ethernet connection.

Well ez fix really, you have it all wrong, you are not looking for the ip address of the router, you are looking for the default gateway.

To find those numbers, just open up command prompt by left clicking on the start menu, now click on programs, click on accessories, left click on command prompt. Type ipconfig then hit enter.

Once you get the default gateway number just punch that into your browsers url bar to logon to your router.
