Can someone help write a net ionic equation?
Could someone assist me in writing a net ionic equation? I need to write a balanced net ionic equation for the reaction between silver nitrate (AgNO3) in aqueous solution and potassium bromide (KBr) in aqueous solution. Here are the relevant reactions to consider:
- AgNO3(aq) + KBr(aq) → AgBr(s) + KNO3(aq)
- Ag+(aq) + NO3-(aq) + K+(aq) + Br-(aq) → Ag+(aq) + Br-(aq) + KNO3(aq)
- Ag+(aq) + Br-(aq) → AgBr(s)
- Ag+(aq) + NO3-(aq) + K+(aq) + Br-(aq) → AgBr(s) + K+(aq) + NO3-(aq)
Please help me identify the correct net ionic equation for this reaction. Thank you!

You may find it better to do this exercise in full , then you know how to do this yourself in future:
Molecular equation:
AgNO3(aq) + KBr(aq) → AgBr(s) + KNO3(aq)
Now you write the full ionic equation by showing anything in the molecular equation that can dissociate , as ions . Anything that is (s) , (l) , (g) does not dissociate
Full ionic equation:
Ag+(aq) + NO3-(aq) + K+(aq) + Br-(aq) → AgBr(s) + K+(aq) + NO3-(aq)
Now in order to write the net ionic equation you inspect the above full ionic equation and you delete anything that is identical on both sides of the → sign . In this case : K+(aq) and NO3-(aq) These are called spectator ions. What remains is the net ionic equation:
Net ionic equation:
Ag+(aq) + Br-(aq) → AgBr(s).
