Generally a ham has been smoked which leads to the bone being cooked. Cooked bones are never good for a dog as they can splinter and cause serious internal damage. Also ham is not good for your dog as it contains HUGE levels of salt and fat.
If you want to feed your dog meaty bones, Y not feed him raw bones? They are soft and will not splinter. Plus they are fantastic for his teeth and gums. You can feed him raw beef bones, pork neckbones even chicken quarters. Basically anything as long as it is raw. *RAW BONES WILLNOT SPLINTER* and if you are feeding your dog USDA approved meat that is fit for human consumption, you will not have a problem with worms. Actually, ham itself is not good for a dog, can be linked to cancer, if a dog consumes too much. Research has been done on that one, so I assume a ham bone would not be good either, especially if it has been cooked.
I worked at a vet years ago, a dog came in blocked from eating a ham bone. Owners had waited several days. The vet had to give the dog an enema to get the bone out. It came out in splinters, so I am sure it did some damage along the way. The dog was put on major meds and sent home. I was not there when it came in for a return visit, so do not know the end result, but I do know it was a very nasty ordeal.
Dear Todd J., A good ?. Old school thoughts are to give pet large enough bone as not to splinter.I’ll get this answer from pet owners a few times a month in my “shop”. They’ll tell me it did no harm.Couldn’t be more wrong. Pet may have lived a couple more productive years if a problem with digestion/elimination hadn’t appeared.People just considered that beloved pet was getting old.In a nutshell Todd, all bones, rawhide and pig ears are BAD. Bits of undigested chews get trapped in folds of intestines and lay sometimes for years.Putrified, they work way out cutting and leaving nasty bacteria and such.Even the manufact. of Greenies reform’d their product.Today pet owners are more atuned to pets ailments and are more likely to visit DMV rather than let pet “work it out”.Roughly 25% of elective surg. are for bowel and intest. obstuctions…….splintered bone, rawhide chews.aside from socks, tennisballs etc.Speacking of tennis balls, make sure it is pet approved. Even brands “made for dogs” are making false claims.A tennis ball contains fiberglass and such. Strands get caught in folds and irratate linning so more hydr.acid is secreted. Bottom line is an ulcer that sometimes doesn’t heal. Pet balls should be made of cotton that can be digested. Todd, a good reward/snack is homemade.Sliced sweet potato, skin on, baked at 200-250 for an hour or two, untill dehydrated but pliable is loaded with vit./minerals and pets love them.Pet whole chicken jerky is a good source,70%.of protein. All in all,the best treat for pet is YOU. A few hours of play, walking, running or just catching a game with you on th couch is most favored by pet. Good luck and give your pet a pat and hug for me.
no you can not cuz the ham bone has moisture and so that means that its a little wet so your dog can chew up the shell of the bone and that is not good cuz your dog can die and may you plz choose my answer as the best plz

Unfortunately its not a good idea because it can cause a blockage in the intestines which can cause the dog to choke, any kind of bone is no.
yup! as long as it’s not too tiny based on the dog’s size…don’t want them chokin on it!
chicken bones and fish bones are definite no-nos, thought. The bones are very brittle and will splinter into sharp little shards that will cut them up
