college Physics problem (You want to create an electric field E = N/C at location …)?
I have two physics problems I'm struggling with:
-
I want to create an electric field E = <0, 30000, 0> N/C at the location <0, 0, 0>. A) Where would I place a proton to produce this field at the origin?
B) Instead of a proton, where would I place an electron to generate this same field at the origin? -
What is the electric field at the location <-0.3, -0.5, 0> m due to a particle with charge +4 nC located at the origin? Could you please help me solve these problems? Thank you!

A)
Ey = Q/4πεr² = (1.6x10^-19)(9x10^9)/r² = 30000 r = √{(1.6)(9x10^-10)/3x10^4} = √4.8x10^-14 = 2.19x10^-7 m on -y axis
B)
r = 2.19x10^-7 m on +y axis
C)
E = Q/4πεr², where: r² = 3² + 0.5²= 9.25 and k = 1/4πε = 9x10^9, also Q = +4x10^-9 C
E = (4x10^-9)(9x10^9)/9.25 = 3.892 N/C
