In 1977's Smokey and the Bandit, Jackie Gleason wears aviator sunglasses in the role of Sheriff Buford T. Justice. Gleason appears in this role in all three "Bandit" movies. The brand of the sunglasses is unidentifiable; however, Ray-Ban is (and was then) one of the leading manufacturers of aviator sunglasses. Ray-Ban was created by Bausch & Lomb in 1937 to sell its aviator sunglasses to the public, which had previously only been available to the military since their inception in 1929.
