I read through the answer taken from Wikipedia and I was overwhelmed. No matter which name your mother chooses from that list, there will be others in the world that have the same name. It would be impossible to name a child Nicholas, as we did, and find that no-one else had that name. I think that it is a lovely name and distinguished for the child. It is not capable of being twisted into anything else. It is a name to be comfortabe with,
If your mother wishes to have a unique name for the baby, then I suggest that she makes one up. In the very distant past, this is what happened, so you got names like Bravespear, Praisegod, Hallelujah,
Thursday, Christmas, Sword, etc..
If she is set on Nicholas, then I suggest that she leaves it alone. The baby will be unique any way. Aren't we all?
My mom misspelled mine and up until grade 3 teachers didn't believe me my name was spelled Nickelaus. They kept making me spell it Nicholas but honestly aside from that I really do love my name and the way it's spelled.
hi there, i wouldn't spell it unique, just spell it the normal ways either nicholas or nicolas or if you want to get a little crazy nikolas.....i wouldn't make it any crazier than that, other kids can be cruel, try to talk your mom out of it........it is much classier to spell it the normal way you dont want to look like you dont know how to spell or make the child like ridiculous when other nicholas's are in the class and he is the only one with it spelled "wrong" and all mixed up

Why? That's stupid. Nicholas is a fine, strong, traditional name for a boy. The last czar of Russia was named Nicholas. Don't f*ck up a perfectly good name.

Don't ruin the name by spelling it differently.
Nicholas is lovely the way it is.
