How many photons are emitted per second? (1 watt = 1J/s )?

How many photons are emitted per second by a heat lamp that produces 24.0 watts of power at a wavelength of 6.8 micrometers? Given that 1 watt is equivalent to 1 joule per second, how can we calculate the number of photons emitted?

Energy per photon at 6.8 microns is:

E = hc/λ = (6.63x10^-34 J-s) (3.0x10^8 m/s) / (6.8 μm) (10^-6 m/μm) = 2.92x10^-20 J.

Energy of 24 watts in 1 second:

(24 J/s) (1 s) = 24.0 J

The number of photons is then:

(24.0 J) / (2.92x10^-20 J/photon) = 8.21x10^20 photons, or 0.00136 moles of photons.

the energy of a single photon is E = h c/L h=Planck's constant = 6.62x10^-34Js c=speed of light = 3x10^8m/s L=wavelength = 6.3x10^-7 m then the energy of one photon = 6.62x10^-34Js*3x10^8m/s / 6.3x10^-7m = 3.15x10^-19J if the laser outputs 1J/s, it requires a number of photons = 1J/s / 3.15x10^-19J/photon = 3.17x10^18photon/sec
