Why is it called a prom bid?
Why is it called a prom bid? Could you please explain the origin and significance of this term in more detail?

Anecdotal sources suggest that Prom Bid is nothing more than another name for a ticket (for two) to the Prom. It is the much-cherished invitation to the Prom sent to a female college student, debutante, or otherwise suitable young woman by a male college student.
A very popular girl might receive several offers or ‘bids’ and may have to choose between them.
We found one source stating that Prom Bids are somewhat of an invitation that also includes the program. It resembles a small book with colored braided twine. Aside from the date, time, venue, and theme, it also contains the playlist of songs to dance to.
You can find customized prom bids online that look like large business cards.
Whether the girl or boy chooses to go with a date, go with a group of friends, or go alone, there are certain etiquette rules that should be followed in order to have the best time and not infringe on the fun of others.
