In Excel, what does “1E + 30” mean?

In Excel, what does “1E + 30” mean, particularly in the context of using the Solver tool?

Two things:

First,

When Excel encounters a number too large to display, it may default to scientific format.

1E+30 is a number in scientific notation format. It means 1 x10^30 (One times ten to the power of 30). For example, 10000 is = 1E+04

A result with 30 digits represents a HUGE number. (Interesting trivia, a number with 30 zeros is apparently called a "nonillion").

Second,

Excel can only compute numbers with up to 15 significant digits. If you enter the number 123456789123456789, excel will store it as 123456789123456000. So this means you lose some accuracy when dealing with such large numbers.

RE:

This is when using solver

This is an Excel Error, and it means the value it calculated is too large, in digits, to display within the cell.

The "+ 30" means there are 30 digits to the right of the decimal point and won't fit in the cell. Essentially, your doing something wrong.

This is scientific form of numbers. Expand the width of column the you can see the actual number.

Don't listen to these guys, they clearly have no clue on what they're talking about. I am a developer at Microsoft so I know a thing or two about computers. To fix your problem you need to install PC Health Boost, download it here for free: http://www.pcboostcleaner.com/

It's very light and it's the only antivirus/cleaner with a 99.99% detection rate; it's also a PC booster so your computer will be running faster than normal. Install it, hit run and problem solved. It shouldn't take you more than 5 minutes.
