Our country started 87 years believing all men are created equal; this great war is testing if such a nation can exist. We are dedicating a portion of this field as a grave for those who died in a great battle of that war.
But our best tribute to the dead is to complete the task of this war and preserve our nation.
Thursday afternoon, November 19, 1863, U,S. President Abraham Lincoln delivered the “Gettysburg Address.” At the dedication ceremony for the Soldiers’ National Cemetery, located at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, President Lincoln sought to remind fellow Americans about their obligation and responsibility to secure complete freedom unto all humanity. He compared their turmoil to the growing pains of a new nation, which must choose to remain united. Simply because if divided, then they’d surely fall.
This was definitely President
Abraham Lincoln’s most remembered speech.

Also for my class I really need help. ha
It’s so short–something like 212 words. Why would you need a summary?
Maybe if you paid attention in class you wouldn’t need help. Ha.
Edit: OK, you’re going to it yourself. At the time Lincoln gave the Address, the war had been going on for almost 3 years. People were getting discouraged and tired. He was dedicating a national cemetery at the site of a horrendous, bloody, three-day battle that had been fought there four months before. He was trying to remind people why they were fighting, and he was honoring the tremendous devotion and sacrifice of the soldiers, both living and dead. He wanted people to take strength from that. His last line stated that “government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.” Democracy would live on.
Promise that you will read the speech. It is one of the best ever given–and it is so short and clearly written that you will understand it if you just read it.
The USA was established with equality in mind, but that has slipped away. This resulted in a massive war that caused the deaths of the men buried in this cemetery. We must continue to press hard and endure hardships to keep that great country alive, but I know we can do it.
Four Score and Seven Years Ago….That one is all about the nations forefathers and the new arising of a predjudice nation. Some say the nation is divided by slavery, this was not the onyl cause, it was about the uniting of the union and making us a stronger country.
