The graph below shows the electronegativities of the elements in the periodic table. mc020-1.jpg which would least strongly attract

Electronegativity refers to the ability of an atom to attract electrons in a chemical bond with another element. The attached graph illustrates the electronegativities of various elements in the periodic table. It is evident that electronegativity increases as you move from left to right across a period and from the bottom to the top of a group. Based on this information, which element would least strongly attract electrons? The correct answer would be an element from Group 1.

Attached is a periodic table that shows how electronegativity varies along the groups and lines. It is not the graph but the purpose id the same.Electronegativity is the attraction that an atom exercises over the electrons in a chemical bond with another element. As we can see in the attached table, electronegativity increases from the first group to the last and from the bottom line to the top line. So, the correct answer would be "elements of group 1".

AExplanation:The elements with the lowest electronegativities would be the elements in group 1 of the periodic table. Group 1 elements are metals, so their properties make them give up one, to have a stable valence electron shell. Also, electronegativity increases as you move from left to right on the table, so group one would have the least electronegativity.

The elements of group 1 are the ones which would least strongly attract electrons from other atoms in a compound. AExplanationThe property of atoms which can least attract electrons from other atoms can also be termed as the ability of the those atoms to donate their electrons to the atoms which can attract electrons. These kind of atoms which can give their electrons to reach a stable electronic configuration is termed as electropositive atoms. Mostly the alkali metals which are the elements in group 1 has this ability of giving their electrons readily and to not at all attract other atom's electrons. So the elements in group 1 category have less tendency for electrons attraction.

The group of elements that will have the lowest electronegativities would be the elements in group 1 of the periodic table. These are metals, and would have low electronegativity as they would not need to attract or pull electrons but to give up one, to have a stable octet. Also, if you note the trend in electronegativity, it increases as you move from left to right on the table, here we are at the leftmost portion of the Table.
