e. the apparently short period of time that disks exist around stars from which stars can form
The problem is that Jovian planets seem to be very common. However, protoplanetary disks tend to evaporate quickly, typically within a million years, by radiation of the central star and nearby massive stars. The timescale is too short for Jovian planets to grow by collision of planetesimals as smaller planets do.
The solution seems to be that Jovian planets can grow by direct gas accretion without forming rocky planetesimals first.

D. We don’t know how long disks exist around stars. Jovian planets differ from others in that the amount of heat they radiate is higher than the amount they receive.
