What did Wale mean in this verse?
I've been listening to a few of Wale's songs, and one in particular, "Ambition," has a verse that I'm struggling to understand. The lyrics go: “Well wishes to my opposition, you * probably cop a plea before you cop a pistol. I got nothing against them; they got potential, but every ** that can read gotta get his issue.” Can someone help me interpret what he means by this?

Well wishes to my opposition
He is wishing the best to his enemies, because not everyone is as fortunate as he is. Most enemies that you make in life want something that you have and they do not.

This is a play on the word cop. Copping a plea refers to taking a plea bargain, which involves helping the police by ratting out others in exchange for a reduced sentence. Ratting out your friends is frowned upon because it is unloyal and selfish. Copping a pistol, on the other hand, means buying a gun. He is saying that these people would rather take the easy way out by being a snitch instead of standing and fighting.

Everyone is capable of making something of themselves. Wale has no problem with another dude trying to make it, because he was in that position only a few years ago.

Wale, he has plenty of music out he’s just not a commercial rapper so you won’t hear about it as much. He has what, 4 or 5 mixtapes? Then attention defecit, and he’s working on a new album I believe. I can relate to wale, especially in his song shades where he talked about how he always thought having lighter skin would be better. And he said something about black people needing to unify,etc…his song diary is nice too. Oh, let’s not forget his wale from md freestyle. Old, but that was NICE.
