Is Walgreen’s 70% Isopropyl Alcohol a denatured alcohol ?

Is Walgreens’ 70% Isopropyl Alcohol a denatured alcohol? How can I determine if it is denatured when the bottle does not specify this information?

No, isopropyl alcohol is not denatured.Any denatured product will clearly be labelled as such.Denatured alcohol is usually found in the paint aisle.

For extraction, high quality vodka functions well.

Only ethanol has to be denatured because it can ingested (at the right concentrations) without being considered toxic. Denaturing ethanol keeps it from being diverted for consumption. Isopropyl alcohol does not have to say it is denatured because it is toxic by itself and does not need any additives to be toxic, it can make you sick if you ingest it, like methanol (wood alcohol). I would still be concerned about ingesting a product extracted with isopropyl alcohol (also called iospropanol), it carries a number of warnings (see link) and making sure it is all gone could be an issue.

Denatured alcohol is ethanol that has been made undrinkable, usually by adding poisonous methanol, dyes, or other toxic or bad-tasting substances. Isopropyl alcohol is not the same as ethanol, and it is not for drinking, so it doesn’t matter whether or not it is denatured.
