my nipple piercing is really itchy..?
I got my nipple pierced last Tuesday, and it hurt quite a bit. From the beginning, I've wondered if the bar is too short. I asked a friend at work who also has a nipple piercing, and she mentioned that her piercing was itchy because her bar was too short. I'm starting to think this might be the reason for my itchiness, but I went to a professional piercer, and I trust that they know what they're doing.
What should I do? Is it normal for a nipple piercing to be itchy? Should I consider changing the bar? Additionally, I'm going on a trip for two weeks. Will the metal in the piercing set off metal detectors? If so, I might be in trouble since I got it done without my mom's permission. Thanks!

Piercings itch when they are healing. As long as your piercing isn't red, swollen, painful, AND itchy, its normal. Any severe irritation, though, could indicate that you're having an allergic reaction to the jewelry. If that's the case, your piercer will need to change your jewelry to Ti or an inert plastic.
Also, one barbell won't set off a metal detector.
Sometimes, itchiness can indicate that the bar is too short, which can be easily demonstrated by this picture: http://wiki.bmezine.com/images/5/5d/Short_Nipple_B... (it doesn't have to be that bad)
In that case, if the bar is too short, simply go to the piercer and get a replacement, and considering that they screwed up, it wouldn't be unfair to ask for one at a discount. Allergic reaction to the jewelry is also possible, but highly unlikely with titanium or stainless steel. And yes, if short jewelry is the circumstance, definitely change it. If you don't, you could end up with a rejected piercing and some bad pain.
However, it's also just as likely that your just experiencing the normal itchiness of healing. However, this itchiness is usually not unbearable.
Finally, it's not very likely that your tiny little nipple barbell will set off a metal detector. If it's made of titanium or another non-magnetic metal, that chance is even less. I'm sorry if my answer seems vague, but these kind of problems require a little more detail. If you're willing to e-mail me with more details, I'll be glad to help you some more.

i got my nipple pierced on tuesday last week. it hurt like hell. from the beginning ive always wondered that the bar is too short. i asked my friend at work who also had a nipple piercing and she said it was itchy for her because her bar was too short. i was thinking this may be the reason but ...
ok well I didnt get my nipple pierced but i got my bellybutton and my ears done and all my piercings were itchy when I got them at first...once they heal they will get better. Make sure that you are keeping them clean and they should be fine. Do not change the bar before the time that the piercer told you that it was ok too and if it stays itchy or looks infected go back and talk to the piercer. They should not set off the metal detectors...at least my piercings didnt.
Don't worry about when you go on your trip. Trust me they will know when the alarm goes off that there must be a pirceing some where. Also get some sea salt spray and just spray your nipple down. It will help with the itchiness and prevent infection.
im not sure you should let me take a look at it so i can see if it looks infected
