What does the song through glass by stone sour mean?

My boyfriend says that "Through Glass" by Stone Sour is our song. I’m not really sure what it’s about, even though I’ve seen the music video. Could someone explain the meaning of the song and how it relates to our relationship?

It might be easier to try and figure it all out with the lyrics:

Stone Sour

"Through Glass"

I'm looking at you through the glass...

Don't know how much time has passed

Oh god it feels like forever

But no one ever tells you that forever

Feels like home sitting all alone inside your head

How do you feel? That is the question

But I forget.. you don't expect an easy answer

When something like a soul becomes

Initialized and folded up like paper dolls and little notes

You cant expect a bit of hope

And while your outside looking in

Describing what you see

Remember what your staring at is me

Cause I'm looking at you through the glass...

Don't know how much time has passed

All I know is that it feels like forever

When no one ever tells you that forever

Feels like home, sitting all alone inside your head

How much is real? So much to question

An epidemic of the mannequins

Contaminating everything

When thought came from the heart

It never did right from the start

Just listen to the noises

(No more sad voices)

Before you tell yourself

Its just a different scene

Remember its just different from what you've seen

I'm looking at you through the glass...

Don't know how much time has passed

And all I know is that it feels like forever

When no one ever tells you that forever

Feels like home, sitting all alone inside your head

And it's the starrrssss

The sttarrrsss

That shine for you

And it's the starrrssss

The sttarrrsss

That lie to you.. yeah-ah

I'm looking at you through the glass...

Don't know how much time has passed

Oh god it feels like forever

But no one ever tells you that forever

Feels like home, sitting all alone inside your head

Cause I'm looking at you through the glass...

Don't know how much time has passed

All I know is that it feels like forever

But no one ever tells you that forever

feels like home, sitting all alone inside your heaaaaddd

And it's the starrrssss

The sttarrrsss

That shine for you.. yeah-ah

And it's the starrrssss

The sttarrrsss

That lie to you.. yeah-ah

And it's the starrrssss

The sttarrrsss

That shine for you.. yeah-ah

And it's the starrrssss

The sttarrrsss

That lie to you.. yeah-ah yeah

Ohhhoh when the starrs

Ohhh oh when the starrrrs that liieee

"Through Glass" is the lead single from the rock band Stone Sour sophomore album Come What(ever) May.

The song was originally inspired by frontman Corey Taylor's outrage at the music industry and how he felt that the musical revolution had never taken place

Corey was quoted as having said:

Corey: I remember exactly where I was. It was 2004 and I was on tour with Slipknot. I was sitting in a European hotel room watching a music video channel, seeing act after act after act of this inane, innocuous, plastic music. They were plastic, bubbly, gossamer-thin groups where it was really more about the clothes they wore and the length of their cheekbones than it was about the content of the song they were singing.

It really made me mad. I was like, "Is this it? Have we just gone full circle? Did the singer/songwriter revolution never happen?" Is it just the same drivel from the same replicant over and over again? "Through Glass" is really a very angry song. It's me basically calling "bullshit" on pretty much everyone involved with the "American Idol"-type shows. It has its place, but when you're basically cornering the market and making it very hard for anyone who actually writes their own music to get ahead, then it's wrong and that's really why I wrote this song.

The video for "Through Glass" takes place in the most plastic of scenarios: the cliché, vacant, Hollywoodesque part where we're seeing all these plastic people. We're seeing celebrity culture and consumer culture magnified in a way that distracts people from thinking about what they should be thinking about.[cite this quote]

The song also gives the impression that the protagonist in the song is incarcerated. He can only see his loved ones through the glass panel during visits, sits in isolation dwelling in his head while in his cell, and being taunted by the shining stars when looking through a window during the night.

I heard the whole CD was based on his drug addiction (all the songs seem to inply that also) so I figured that the song is based on him loooking at himself from new perspective.

it's kinda like you shouldn't judge me based on what you see.
