C. pacingVarying sentence structure and length affect a story's pacing. Short sentences speed up the pacing of a story. Long complex sentences slow down the pacing of the story. A theme is the author's main idea or message. It is not affected by sentence length. The plot is also not affected by sentence structure or length. Neither is figurative language.

PacingAn author can control the pacing of the story by varying sentence structure and length. Short simple sentences can be read faster while longer compound complex sentence structures take the reader more time to process. In an action scene, an author may want to have shorter sentences and even some fragments to demonstrate the chaos. When the author is writing a more descriptive part of the story with a lot of imagery and figurative language usually the sentence structure is much more complex. It helps the reader slow down and visualize. Varying sentence structure and length can help the author create a mood which helps to create suspense and/or develop a theme.

A literary element that can vary sentence structure and length effect in a story is 3. pacing.Pacing refers to the literary device which shows how a story unfolds quickly. The writer uses different techniques to control the paces in the story when the due to the length of the story reader feels frustrated. The writer cut short the words and reduces the number of pages when the story has to be told in short. Whereas, in the long story the writer controls the pace through different mix-ups. The writer uses descriptions of slower paced actions, use of active verbs to demonstrate an intense action scene or by using short sentences. Therefore, the writer moves the story forward through different structures and pace.
