A spondee is a foot composed of two accented syllables. The word spondee which comes from Greek, refers to a metrical foot that consists of two long syllables. It is determined by syllable weight in classical meters, or two stressed syllables in modern meters.  Spondees are found as irregular feet in meter based on another type of foot. In classical meter spondees are easily identified due to the fact that the distinction between short and long syllables is unambiguous.
